Key findings
- Roaming outside Europe still costs £6–£8 a day on the big three networks, so a week adds £30–£56 to your bill.
- A travel eSIM costs a one-off £5–£20 for 5–10GB, usually valid for 30 days, so it covers a whole trip, not just a week.
- Japan and Sri Lanka are EE's most expensive destinations: there's no weekly pass, so you pay £8 every day you use your phone.
- Inside Europe the gap is smaller. Vodafone charges £2.75 a day, and many plans include EU roaming for free, so check yours before buying anything.
How we worked it out
We checked each network's published roaming prices for pay monthly customers on 2 November 2026:
- Vodafone: daily roaming fee for plans bought on or after 11 August 2021 that don't include roaming in that destination (source). A week = 7 days × the daily fee.
- EE: the price of a 7-day roaming pass where one exists, or 7 × the 24-hour pass where it doesn't (source).
- O2: 7 × the O2 Travel Bolt On daily price, only for destinations O2 lists for it (source).
- eSIM: the cheapest travel eSIM plan we list for that destination, checked on the provider's site the same day.
Some plans include roaming in certain destinations at no extra cost, so your own costs may be lower. Always check your network's current prices before you travel.
